This latest feature is currently available only for Twitter users on smartphones or tabs, but the company is soon planning to make the feature available on Web Browser. Web users, however, can still listen to the messages which they receive on Twitter. Twitter India MD, Manish Maheshwari, in a statement said, “India is a priority market for Twitter and that is why we’re constantly testing new features and learning from people’s experience on the service here. We’re excited to bring the voice messages in DMs experiment to the country and give people a new way to express themselves and help them connect through the nuances, emotion, and empathy built by hearing someone’s voice.” You Might Also Like: Twitter Expands Its Policy: Includes Race & Ethnicity Under Protected Categories
How To Use Twitter Voice DM Feature?
The new feature introduced by Twitter is quite similar to one’s on the other social media platforms. Just like voice tweets, the new feature allows users to send a maximum of 140 seconds long voice DM. To enable the feature, all users are requested to update the Twitter app from Google Play Store or Apple Store. Here is how you can make full use of the Twitter Voice DM feature:
Step 1: To initiate a new conversation, you will have to first go to the DM section. The feature also allows you to send DM in an old conversation. Step 2: The next step is to open the chat. Here, you will notice the voice recording icon on the right side. Step 3: Here, you need to tap on the icon to record the desired message, and then click on the ‘red icon’ once you are done with the recording.
Users can listen to the recording before sending it to anyone. In case, you are not happy, and want to cancel, then tap on the cancel button. You can now record a new message. For all iPhone users, there will be a press-and-hold option to record a message. Once done, you will have to then swipe and release the button to send the message. Twitter is also said to be currently working on a new feature – Clubhouse-like voice-based chat room, Spaces. This feature will give all users a platform to create a ‘Space’ where their followers can join in a conversation and even present their viewpoints.
